The school has Heads of Learning Support in both the Junior and Senior Schools. They have general responsibility for monitoring the progress of students with SEN and maintaining communications with their teachers.
The school does not offer any scholarships.
There are a small number of means-tested bursaries which are available at main entry points only (Years 3, 5, 7 and Sixth Form).
The Royal Grammar School in Newcastle is a remarkable school with a long history of welcoming people from all backgrounds. It is an exciting place to learn, that is forward thinking and inclusive. We aim to create a sense of belonging, to foster a belief in each other, inspire a love for learning and encourage an ambition to succeed.
The RGS has a reputation for excellence in academic, sporting and cultural activities and our students benefit from the wide range of opportunities they can enjoy. We encourage our students to be intellectually curious, to think creatively and to challenge themselves in everything they undertake.
Happy children learn. At the RGS, students develop the confidence to be themselves while gaining experience of working alongside others. We are conscious of the challenges that young people face and do our utmost to ensure a stable, caring community. We want our students to feel valued as individuals and fully supported in achieving their best.
We hope to ensure that our students leave the RGS as kind, interesting, independent minded individuals who are willing to take on responsibility and motivated to contribute to society.
We aim for them to have the strongest possible foundations for their future.
I hope you will visit us and experience for yourself the warmth of the welcome and the energy and purpose evident amongst our staff and students.
